The wonderful Canadian magazine The New Quarterly has just published my short story Marcus of Montreal in the summer 2025 issue. I'm totally delighted to have been published in such a prestigious magazine.
The journey to publication was long: I submitted the story in September 2023, it was accepted for publication in July 2024, and then finally published in July 2025. Along the way the editor-in-chief Pamela Mulloy made several suggestions that improved the story's flow and pacing. Still, this feels like quite an old story. It was written at an earlier stage of my development as a writer and so it's not really representative of the writer I am today. But I'm proud of it, and have a soft spot in my heart for the title character who lived in my imagination for such a long time. You're free now Marcus!
